Phonic Monsters Consonant Digraph Version

The phonic monsters are a fun way to learn and practice phoneme-grapheme correspondences. For a deatiled explanation on how to use these cards visit the Phonics Monsters main page. The phonics monsters found here illustrate the phoneme/grapheme correspondences for words that contain consonant digraphs such as the SH in fish, the CK in rock, the CH in chin, or the NG in wing. Some regular CVC heads and tails have been included the tails so that students can review their CVC words.

How to use these cards:

                    (1) Download a set of heads, bodies, and tails.(See links below)

                    (2) Paste them onto poster board and cut them out.

                    (3) Use them as flashcards or to play games* like Change It or Rummy.

*Note: When playing games, I usually take the SH head and the F head out. This prevents students from spelling some nasty four-letter words. I also take the CH tail out for the same reason. But when using them as flashcards, I include them since I control which words are being formed.

These cards can be used in conjunction with other phonics long vowel bossy E word resources found in in the consonant digraph worksheets and teaching resources section.
