News Stories 8:
Police Cracking down on Drunk Driving

Good evening! I’m Chris Gunn and I’m here with today’s top news stories.

Police in Courtenay have announced that they will be cracking down on drunk driving over the long weekend. Roadblocks will be set up at locations all across the city. Police are reminding people to have a designated driver if they are going to drink.

A local resident has been arrested for arson. Police say the man was caught on security video setting fire to a warehouse in the downtown area. The fire caused about $30,000 in damage.

City council has announced that a new park will be built along the sea walk. Construction of the park will begin next month. The park will have picnic tables and a playground as well as public washrooms. The park will cost the city an estimated $200,000 to install.

And that’s today’s news at nine.
