Dialogue: Asking a Coworker to Swap Shifts
A: Hey, Jill. Do you have a moment?
B: Sure. Just give me a sec. I have to send this email ASAP and then I’ll be right with you.
A: Take your time.
B: All right. That’s sent. What can I do for you Dave?
A: Well, I’m scheduled to work the evening shift on Friday, but I’d like to swap with someone on the morning shift.
B: You got plans for Friday evening?
A: Not really. I’m heading to Vancouver for the weekend. It’s just that I’d prefer to catch the Friday evening ferry. I mean I could catch the ferry Saturday morning if I have to.
B: Well, I did have plans for Friday evening, but I don’t mind cancelling. It’s nothing special.
A: Oh, in that case, don’t worry about it. I’ll ask Angelo or Lydia. They’re also working the morning shift.
B: Okay. But I really don’t mind cancelling my plans if they can’t swap with you. You can count on me as a last resort.
A: Okay thanks. I appreciate it.
B: No problem.
