Dialogue:
Fasten Your Seatbelt
Erin: Hi, Dad. Thanks for picking me up.
Dad: My pleasure. How was school today?
Erin: It was good. We had a police officer come to class and discuss traffic safety.
Dad: Oh, good. That’s really important for young drivers to know.
Erin: Uh, dad? Fasten your seatbelt please.
Dad: We’re just driving home. It takes less than a minute.
Erin: It doesn’t matter. That was one of the things she talked about. 30% of accidents occur less than 2 kilometres from home.
Dad: But I won’t drive fast. The speed limit is 50 around here.
Erin: Again it doesn’t matter. Getting into an accident at 50 kilometres per hour is almost the same as falling out of a three story building.
Dad: I’ll drive carefully.
Erin: You might, but you can’t control how others drive.
Dad: I guess.
Erin: You know dad. Wearing a seatbelt reduces the risk of fatal injuries by 45% for drivers and front-seat passengers. It also reduces the risk of serious injuries by 50%.
Dad: Fine. I’ll buckle up for you.
