Shapes, Numbers, Color Card Game
These cards can be used to teach 10 basic shapes and ten basic colors. As well, these cards
can be used to demonstrate adjective order in English. The images in the cards are shapes
modified by two or three adjectives, depending on what the teach wants to emphasize.
Case 1: Number, Color, Shape
One red circle
Two green diamonds
Four yellow moons
Case 2: Number, Size, Color Shape
All of the shapes come in two size, big or little (1-5 big, 6-10 little):
One big red circle
Two big green diamonds
Six little brown rectangles
There is also a second version of the cards for students with some form of color blindness. The second
version of the cards has the colors written in the bottom corners. I always keep a color blind version
handy because color blindness is very common. The links for these cards are designated with (CB).
This game plays like fish. The teacher should print off two copies of each card and glue them
onto a poster board backing (and possibly laminate for longevity).
Students sit in groups of three to five and play fish:
S1: Do you have two little green diamonds?
S2: Yes, I do. Here you are.
OR
No, I don't. Go fish.
Another game you can play is 'matching threes'. There are three of each shape, color and number
in the deck. Each student gets three cards. They take turns choosing a card from the deck and then
throwing and discarding a card. The next student can either pick up the discard or take a new card
from the deck. The students can win by either picking up three of the same number, three of the same
color or three of the same shape.
