Word Skills Crosswords: Teaching Word Skills through Massive Comprehensible Inputby Chris Gunn
|
||||||
A few months ago, I published
a
collection of crosswords for teaching relative clauses through massive
comprehensible input. Along the same lines, I have now begun
generating a database and crosswords for word skills such as
talking about synonyms, antonyms, rhymes, and categories, which are all
very useful for defining and talking about vocabulary. Being able draw upon a variety of strategies for discussing language makes teaching content-based ESL a lot easier. If a student needs a word explained, I can give a synonym (tiny is another word for small), an antonym (shallow is the opposite of deep), or a category (a chameleon is a kind of lizard). |
